I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted – unfortunately, life got in the way, and I’ve just been too busy! Lovely for me, not so great for my blogging. Lately, though, a thought has been buzzing round and round my head, bothering me, not letting me drop it but not staying still long enough for me to pin it down. I am angry and a little bit sickened, perhaps even a touch offended, but in truth I can’t really put my finger on why.
I’m talking about the current anti-breast cancer campaign being spearheaded by The Sun’s Page 3 and breast cancer charity CoppaFeel!. I have been mulling over why it irritates me so much, or why it just feels wrong, and to be honest I’m finding it really hard to qualify.
CoppaFeel! estimates that the campaign will garner their cause over £1.5million worth of publicity, which obviously can only be a good thing. And if it encourages more women to check their breasts and be aware of the warning signs of breast cancer, then of course that’s great, too. Education is at the forefront of the fight against all sort of cancers, and the more we know and the more we know our own bodies, the better, right? Of course.
